Artist Bill Tayvis
My art explores consciousness and spirituality through the use of artistic halftones, in a style I call Halftonism.
I fell in love with halftones as a kid, when I would examine the newspaper with a magnifying glass. Halftones are created by varying the relative width of a repeating pattern, to create the illusion of tones halfway in between.
In my Halftonism art I scale the pattern up so it can become expressive, and is large enough that it brings the viewer into the creative process because they complete the image themselves in their minds. I have mastered drawing halftones freehand, which is how I go about painting my murals and canvases.
